
The United National Party (UNP) has fielded six strong groups aiming to gain power in six local government institutions in the Nuwara Eliya district for the provincial election, according to Maskeliya UNP Chief Organizer K. K. Piyadasa.
Speaking to the media in Hatton after submitting nominations for the upcoming local government election, Piyadasa stated that candidates representing the UNP under the elephant symbol have been fielded for the Hatton Dickoya Urban Council, Ambagamuwa, Norwood, Maskeliya, Walapane, and Haguranketha Pradeshiya Sabhas in the Nuwara Eliya district.
He emphasized that this time, the UNP has presented a group of strong candidates who are highly popular among the people in those provinces. Given the circumstances, he expressed confidence that the UNP would be able to secure power in those local government institutions.
Furthermore, Piyadasa noted that many people in the area now believe that the UNP can positively impact their villages and, under such conditions, he expects them to rejoin the party.
