A tragic incident occurred in the Kiralogama area of the Eppawala Police Division, where a 69-year-old monk was brutally attacked with a sharp weapon at a monastery. The Eppawala Police Station received a complaint about the attack on the afternoon of March 25, 2025, and investigations have since been initiated.
The murdered monk resided in the monastery, and the horrific incident was discovered by a visitor and a monk from another temple who had come to see him. They immediately reported the matter to the Eppawala Police Station.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the monk had a three-wheeler and a driver. However, the driver is currently missing, and no information about him has been uncovered yet. The police have not yet identified the individual responsible for the murder.
The body of the deceased monk has been moved to the Anuradhapura Hospital morgue following a Magistrate’s examination. Meanwhile, the Eppawala Police continue to conduct further investigations to determine the circumstances and identify the perpetrator.
