Former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon, who is currently held at Dumbara Prison, is undergoing extensive questioning by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), according to prison sources.
The interrogation, scheduled to last four days, is being conducted under a special court order. Tennakoon was arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Matara that led to the death of a police sergeant from the Colombo Crimes Division. The court has ordered his remand until the 3rd of next month.
The former IGP is being kept in a special cell within the prison. His suspension was previously ordered by the Supreme Court on July 24th last year, following petitions filed by nine parties, including Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, concerning the Easter Sunday attacks.
