Former Navy Commander, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, has responded to the sanctions recently imposed by the British government against him and several others over alleged human rights violations committed during humanitarian operations against the LTTE.
In his response, Admiral Karannagoda criticized the sanctions, stating that they are not grounded in any transparent investigation or legitimate legal process. He claims the measures are a result of pressure from the international community aimed at targeting those who played significant roles in Sri Lanka’s victory over the LTTE during the civil conflict.
The former Navy Commander further asserted that the foreign entities now imposing sanctions did nothing to address the atrocities committed by the LTTE, despite Sri Lanka being under constant threat from terrorist activities. He emphasized that the sanctions are unjust and politically motivated, disregarding the broader context of the nation’s struggle against terrorism.
