National People’s Power (NPP) Member of Parliament Dinindu Saman Hennayake has alleged that opposition members who are most vocal in Parliament are likely to face imprisonment in that very order.
Speaking at a public meeting, MP Hennayake stated that if a list were compiled of the loudest opposition members in Parliament, it would correspond to the order in which they will eventually be imprisoned. He claimed that their loud protests and aggressive rhetoric are a reflection of their awareness that investigations are being conducted against them.
According to Hennayake, some members of the opposition are well aware that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating them and that they may face legal repercussions as a result. He assured that those who shout the loudest in Parliament will be the first to face jail time, suggesting that their vocal protests are merely attempts to defend themselves from the inevitable consequences of these investigations.
Doesn’t that constitute as a threat against democracy and freedom of speech?
