Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) General Secretary and Nuwara Eliya District Parliamentarian Jeevan Thondaman has expressed strong confidence that the party will gain control of several local government bodies in the Nuwara Eliya District at the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking to the media at the Kotagala party office following a religious blessing ceremony at the Kotagala Sri Muthu Vinayagar Kovil in Hatton, Thondaman said the party’s campaign was off to an auspicious start.
Thondaman confirmed that the CWC would contest this year’s elections under the rooster symbol and mentioned that legal action has been taken over the rejection of nominations submitted for the Kotmale and Maskeliya Pradeshiya Sabhas under that symbol.
He stated that, if necessary, the party is ready to form alliances or seek the support of other political entities in order to take control of contested local government institutions.
Party Chairman Sendhil Thondaman and Treasurer Mardapandi Rameswaran were also present at the media briefing.
