Colombo, Sri Lanka – A specialized security delegation from India has arrived in Colombo to coordinate with Sri Lankan law enforcement agencies ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to the island nation, scheduled from April 4 to 6, 2025.
The high-level team is working closely with the Sri Lanka Police and the Presidential Security Division to implement a comprehensive security and traffic plan during the visit. The arrangements are being personally overseen by Senior DIG of the Western Province, Sanjeewa Dharmaratne.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to land at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake on Friday evening. He will be accompanied by India’s Minister of External Affairs, National Security Advisor, Foreign Secretary, and other senior officials.
During his three-day visit, Prime Minister Modi will engage in bilateral talks with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in regional security, trade, energy, and cultural exchange.
In a symbolic cultural and spiritual gesture, Modi is also scheduled to visit the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. He will inaugurate several development projects supported by the Indian government, reinforcing India’s role as a key development partner to Sri Lanka.
To ensure safety throughout the visit, several roads in Colombo and along the route to Anuradhapura will be closed periodically to facilitate the movement of the Indian delegation. The public is advised to follow traffic advisories and cooperate with law enforcement.
A full-scale security rehearsal is being conducted today (April 2) to test all protocols in advance of the high-profile visit. Officials emphasize that maximum attention is being paid to both security and diplomatic coordination to ensure a smooth and successful state visit.
