Colombo, Sri Lanka – Deputy Defense Minister Aruna Jayasekara has emphasized the importance of strengthening Pradeshiya Sabhas (local government bodies) to ensure the effective delivery of development projects to rural areas.
Speaking at a public event, Jayasekara stated that the National People’s Power (NPP) party, now in control of both executive and parliamentary powers, is committed to bringing tangible benefits to villages across the country.
“The 2025 national budget has been approved. The government is ready to take development to the grassroots, but to do that, we need the support of local government institutions,” he said.
The Deputy Minister underscored that while the central government has laid the groundwork for national development initiatives, local-level governance remains crucial to their successful implementation. He called for renewed focus on empowering Pradeshiya Sabhas as vital partners in the country’s development agenda.
