Dr. Harsha de Silva, Member of Parliament from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has warned that Sri Lanka is at significant risk of losing the GSP+ trade concession it currently benefits from.
He attributed this growing risk to the recently imposed tariffs by the United States, which have placed Sri Lanka among the top five countries facing the highest tariff rates from the U.S.
“This is a dangerous development,” Dr. de Silva said, emphasizing that such a position could lead to serious economic consequences for the country in the near future.
He made these remarks during a media briefing held in Colombo, where he further stressed the urgency for the government to engage diplomatically to prevent the erosion of vital international trade privileges.
