The Frontline Socialist Party claims that China has begun to respond swiftly following the signing of a security agreement between Sri Lanka and India.
According to the party’s Education Secretary, Pubudu Jayagoda, China has already initiated discussions with Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan for a regional security pact in response to Sri Lanka’s alignment with India.
He emphasized that Sri Lanka has never entered into a security agreement with any country over the past seventy years, and described the current agreement with India as “the worst betrayal in history.”
Jayagoda claimed that with the signing of this agreement, China now views Sri Lanka as part of an Indo-American strategic bloc, prompting Beijing to take immediate steps to form a new counter-alliance with its regional partners.
He made these remarks during a media briefing held in Colombo, warning that the move may have long-term geopolitical implications and could drastically alter Sri Lanka’s standing in the region.
