On the morning of March 31, 2025, the Negombo Police Station initiated an investigation following a complaint received alleging that a doctor had sexually assaulted a young woman at the Negombo District General Hospital.
The alleged victim is a 19-year-old resident of Seeduwa.
According to the complaint, the young woman had visited the hospital with her mother seeking treatment for a toothache and a skin condition. The report lodged with the police, through the Director of the Negombo General Hospital, stated that the attending doctor had subjected her to sexual harassment during the examination.
Subsequently, on April 2, 2025, the young woman was referred to a forensic medical officer for examination. The forensic report concluded that there was no evidence of vaginal penetration or any physical injuries consistent with sexual assault.
However, due to dissatisfaction with the initial forensic report, the complainant has been referred for further evaluation by a special medical board, as per a court order.
The Negombo Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
