A special medical and humanitarian aid disaster relief team from Sri Lanka arrived at Yangon International Airport on Saturday, April 5, to assist Myanmar following the recent devastating earthquake.
Dispatched under the direction of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and overseen by Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyyakontha (Retd), the tri-service team carried urgently needed medical supplies and humanitarian aid aboard a special flight.
According to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Myanmar, the team was warmly received at the airport by Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar and senior Myanmar state officials. Yangon’s Chief Minister expressed deep gratitude, acknowledging Sri Lanka’s prompt response as a powerful reflection of the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
The relief team will now proceed to the administrative capital, Nay Pyi Taw, where they will begin providing medical and humanitarian assistance in the disaster-affected regions.
Myanmar is currently recovering from a powerful earthquake that struck last week, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, causing widespread damage and hardship.
