Deputy Minister of Public Safety, Sunil Watagala, announced that Public Safety Committees will be established in every Grama Niladhari division as part of the Clean Sri Lanka initiative.
He stated that the relevant circular outlining the implementation of these committees will be issued shortly.
“We are forming a village committee under the Clean Sri Lanka program. A circular will be released to define the responsibilities and duties of these committees. We are setting up a Public Safety Committee in each village to address major conflicts and ensure peace at the grassroots level,” the Deputy Minister explained.
He further elaborated on the composition and leadership of these committees. “The Grama Niladhari and the Divisional Secretary will play guiding roles in these committees. In addition, the designated officer responsible for drug prevention at the Divisional Secretariat will also be a member. An elder from the village will be appointed as the chairman.”
“We are putting in place a separate committee structure aimed at maintaining peace and harmony in every village,” he added.
