President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has acknowledged that the recent tax decisions made by the United States are beginning to pose a threat to Sri Lanka’s economy, even though the full impact has yet to be felt.
Speaking at a public rally organized by the National People’s Power in Kottawa, the President stated that the government is doing everything possible to mitigate the situation through diplomatic channels and negotiations.
He revealed that he has already written to the U.S. President, officially expressing Sri Lanka’s willingness to revise its tax policy concerning American goods. This step, he explained, is part of a broader effort to prevent economic fallout and maintain healthy trade relations.
In addition, President Dissanayake said Sri Lanka is prepared to send a delegation to the United States to further discuss potential adjustments and arrive at a mutually beneficial arrangement.
“Our goal is to reach a fair and concessional agreement that supports both countries,” he told the crowd, signaling a proactive approach to diffusing trade tensions before they escalate.
