Cabinet Media Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa has challenged the recent claim made by Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage, who stated that Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves were just $20 million when the National People’s Power (NPP) government assumed power.
Responding to the statement, Minister Jayatissa emphasized that accurate figures from the Central Bank should be relied upon. He stated that according to official Central Bank records, the country’s foreign reserves stood at $5.99 billion in September and had increased to $6.47 billion by October.
Jayatissa’s clarification comes amid growing public scrutiny over economic statistics shared by government officials and highlights the importance of fact-based discussions regarding the country’s financial standing.
