(COLOMBO) – Three persons including a Customs officer and a civilian clerk were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Sri Lanka on Tuesday along with a little over 10 kilograms of heroin, officials said on Wednesday.
The heroin had arrived in eight separate parcels that had arrived from Pakistan, they said.
They said the bust was made when one man had attempted to clear the consignment.
The parcels containing the heroin had been declared as towels, and the heroin had a street value of an estimated Rs. 270 million.
The eight parcels had been sent to the BIA’s air cargo terminal from Lahore, Pakistan on November 10 via an Oman Air flight addressed to a local goods importing company operating at Thihariya in Nittambuwa in the outskirts of the commercial capital of Colombo, according to the officials.
The suspects along with the heroin were subsequently handed over to sleuths from the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at the BIA for further investigations, the officials said.
