Amid signs of economic relief, Minister of Plantation Industries Samantha Vidyarathna says Sri Lankans are once again preparing to celebrate the New Year with renewed enthusiasm. Addressing a public gathering of the National People’s Power Party, the minister stated that for the first time in many years, city streets are once again filling with shoppers eager to mark the holiday season.
He noted that the prices of essential goods have significantly dropped since the National People’s Power Party took over the reins of government, making it possible for ordinary citizens to afford seasonal purchases. While acknowledging that the economy is still recovering and that people do not yet enjoy widespread prosperity, he emphasized that the change in mood and public engagement is unmistakable.
The minister observed that people are visibly more hopeful and are actively preparing to celebrate, despite still living within modest means. He highlighted this as a reflection of public confidence slowly returning after years of financial strain.
In his remarks, Vidyarathna described the current festive activity as a powerful indicator of shifting public sentiment and a sign that the government’s early steps toward economic recovery are beginning to resonate on the ground.
