President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his Sinhala and Tamil New Year message for 2025, delivered an inspiring note of reflection and resolve, reminding the nation that Sri Lanka has already risen from the depths of despair and now stands at the threshold of transformation.
Speaking at a time when the country is gradually emerging from its most difficult chapter, the President acknowledged the profound significance of the New Year as a moment of spiritual and physical renewal. He described it as a season that unites the Sinhalese and Tamil communities in tradition, culture, and shared hope, even as the nation continues its pursuit of economic, social, and political progress.
“We are celebrating this New Year at a time when the country is achieving victories, and our collective struggle to build a better future is yielding results,” he noted. The President emphasized that the government has already lifted Sri Lanka from the economic abyss it had plunged into, restoring stability and reawakening national purpose.
He credited the people’s trust, especially expressed during the last presidential and general elections, as the force behind this transformative journey. “The victories belong to the people. The faith they placed in this administration paved the way for national renewal,” he said.
President Dissanayake underscored the importance of maintaining this momentum. He affirmed that the government remains committed to navigating both domestic and geopolitical challenges with resilience and responsibility. “We are implementing strategic plans to face whatever lies ahead,” he added.
Touching on the spiritual symbolism of New Year customs, the President reflected on how these rituals honor the connection between humanity and nature, and how they represent the timeless coexistence of Sri Lanka’s diverse communities. “Though our society has been fractured by division, this season calls us back to unity, harmony, and coexistence,” he said.
He called on citizens to embrace ethical living, compassionate understanding, and cultural respect, recognizing these as values essential to national healing and social progress. “This New Year must be a beginning—one where we cast aside outdated ideologies and attitudes, and step forward as renewed individuals.”
Concluding his message, President Dissanayake invited all Sri Lankans to take part in the national program for transformation. “Let us walk together with strength and solidarity towards building a rich country and a beautiful life.”
He extended heartfelt wishes for a New Year filled with peace, progress, and shared prosperity.
