In a heartfelt celebration that honored the unsung heroes of urban beauty, the “Gasma” team under the Derana Macroentertainment division hosted its third annual New Year festival on April 5th at the Philip Gunawardena Stadium in Maradana. This year’s event, held under the theme “Maliban Presents Gasma Veda Allana Awurudu”, was a vibrant tribute to the environmental workers who play a key role in maintaining the splendor of Colombo city.
The festival was specially curated for over 150 dedicated individuals — the parents, brothers, and sisters who work tirelessly to keep the environment clean and beautiful. With their joyful presence and enthusiastic participation, the day unfolded with laughter, sportsmanship, and shared moments of celebration.
Thanks to the unwavering support of the Derana Macroentertainment staff, the event featured a variety of traditional and entertaining competitions, including bun-eating, coconut scraping, water bottle filling, breaking the lucky pot, musical chairs, musical hats, fancy dress shows, and feeding milk to the sanga. The highlight of the day was the selection of the New Year prince and princess, adding a touch of elegance and excitement to the occasion.
Maliban stepped forward as the official sponsor of this meaningful initiative, with additional support coming from all divisions of the Derana Media Network, helping ensure the festival’s success. Numerous gifts and cash prizes were awarded, making the event not just celebratory but also rewarding.
It was, indeed, one of the most beautiful Aurudu seasons inherited by the Gasma family — a fitting tribute to those who’ve built a quiet but lasting legacy for the country through their daily acts of dedication.
