(COLOMBO) – Two students were hospitalized after the principal is alleged to have forced them to chew on their lunch wrappers of polythene and old newspaper at a school in Central Sri Lanka, police and hospital officials said on Wednesday.
They said the alleged incident took place at the Rambukpitiya Maha Vidyalaya in Nawalapitiya some 124 kilometres away from the commercial capital of Colombo.
The principal apparently adamant on maintaining a ‘green’ approach of his charges had allegedly forced the students to consume the wrappers as a deterrent punishment, they said.
The police were called into investigate after the children were admitted to a regional Government-owned hospital for nausea and vomiting among other symptoms, the officials added.
“It appears the principal in concern had overreacted in this case and the matter will be investigated further”, the officials said.
