Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa clean bowled the head of State and President Ranil Wickremasinghe in Parliament over a photograph of him with corruption tainted Sri Lanka Cricket president Shammi Silva and then challenged him to clean up the the rot in the country’s number one sport.
Premadasa reacted to President Wickremasinghe telling Parliament that it was him in the middle of a photograph with Shammi Silva that some people were confused over.
“If you want to know who is in the middle of the picture, it is me,” said President Wickremasinghe.
But Premadasa shooting back said “Honourable President you are not in the middle of the picture. In the middle is Shammi Silva”
To prove it Premadasa showed Wickremasinghe and Parliament the disputed photograph.
Premadasa also cautioned the President to be aware of people who have misled him with false information and lies about SLC that serves as a lifeline to sustain rogues running the administration of cricket.
Premadasa was indirectly referring to Sagala Ratnayake who is Wickremasinghe’s chief advisor and close aide of Shammi Silva.
In a surprise reply to Premadasa, President Wickremasinghe told the Opposition Leader to hand over to him three letters that Shammi Silva had written to the ICC calling on the sport’s global keeper to ban Sri Lanka.
“Please send the letters to me and I will act on it,” Wickremasinghe told Premadasa who retorted saying it was all public knowledge.
