Speaking at the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya media briefing, party leader and attorney Udaya Gammanpila shared the following remarks:
“Today, I feel like Rambo. As a child, when I saw scenes of Rambo fighting alone against a massive army, I believed they were just movies—not real life. But now, when I make a speech, it seems as though the entire government—from the President to unknown MPs—attacks me alone. From Tilvin Silva and the JVP leadership to their rank and file, I face them all by myself.
There is a saying: when an entire group comes to attack a single person, that person has already won half the battle. Today, the entire government is united in attacking me. So I take this moment to thank the leaders of the Compass coalition, in which I have apparently become a central figure.”
Where is the mastermind behind the government?
“We were able to thwart yet another attempt by the Compass government to mislead the people of this country. When the government completed six months in office, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith threatened to mobilize the Catholic community and take to the streets if the mastermind of the Easter Sunday attacks was not exposed by April 21, the sixth anniversary of the tragedy. Alarmed by this, the President promised—on March 30, from his campaign platform—that the mastermind would be revealed before April 21.
Everyone waited. Today is April 21. Was the promised revelation made? No, it was not. This is yet another broken promise by the government. Why did it happen?
The plan was to declare that Pillayan, who was under detention, had confessed to being the mastermind. That’s why he was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and held without access to legal counsel or visitors. That’s why the police, in violation of the Constitution, failed to state the reason for his arrest.
The President claimed Pillayan was arrested over the Easter attacks. Meanwhile, the Minister of Industry stated he was arrested in connection with the disappearance of a professor. Then, the Minister of Police told Parliament that Pillayan had revealed vital information related to the Easter Sunday bombings. Around the same time, social media accounts aligned with the Compass coalition posted headlines like “Pillayan has confessed everything” and “Pillayan is involved in the Easter attacks.”
They even organized media briefings using individuals affiliated with the Compass to push this narrative.
I saw through this immoral charade. They were risking the life of a man who once risked his own to bring peace to our country. I was determined to stop this unjust campaign. Defying legal boundaries, I visited Pillayan. I asked him directly, ‘Did the police inform you of the reason for your arrest, as required by the Constitution?’ He showed me his arrest receipt. It merely referenced the Prevention of Terrorism Act—without stating any specific reason. That means even the police didn’t know why he was arrested.
I then asked, ‘Were you questioned about the Easter attacks?’ Pillayan replied, ‘No. I was not asked a single question about the Easter attacks. I wouldn’t even know how to answer such questions, because I was in custody from 2015 to 2020.’
With his permission, I informed the public of this, and the government’s plan to name a false mastermind collapsed right there. So it’s no surprise that the government went hysterical and began to slander me. The level of outrage and abuse they direct at me is now my gauge for success.”
Here is the mastermind the government is hiding
“Even though the government failed to identify the real mastermind, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States, the most advanced and credible investigative agency in the world, stepped in. After ISIS—an enemy of the U.S.—claimed responsibility for the Easter attacks, which also killed American citizens, the FBI launched its own investigation.
They interviewed witnesses and suspects. They used cutting-edge technology to analyze bomb site evidence and digital data from the attackers’ mobile phones and laptops, including deleted files. They reviewed books linked to Thowheeth Jamaat and consulted global ISIS experts. After compiling and cross-referencing all this information, the FBI concluded that the mastermind behind the Easter Sunday attacks was none other than Mohamed Zaharan Hashim, the leader of the Thowheeth Jamaat and the head of the Sri Lankan branch of ISIS. Naufer Maulavi was his second-in-command.
These findings were formally submitted to a U.S. court in a 72-page affidavit by FBI Special Agent Merily R. Goodwin. I invite all English-speaking citizens to download the document from my website, www.udayagammanpila.com. It contains a thorough and professional breakdown of how the attacks were executed.
Moreover, Professor Rohan Gunaratna—one of the world’s most respected terrorism experts—reviewed the FBI’s data along with other available material. Whenever international investigators question terror suspects, Professor Gunaratna is often consulted for his deep expertise. Based on his analysis, he too concluded that Zaharan was the principal architect of the attacks. He later authored a book titled Sri Lanka Easter Sunday Massacre, which was translated into Sinhala by Cyril Gunawardena.
Now, we have a group of local investigators—YouTubers and NGO activists—who seem to know more than the FBI and Professor Gunaratna. Instead of using social media to share conspiracy theories, they should report any legitimate findings directly to the police. The President’s promise to reveal the mastermind before April 21 has failed, but if these people have credible information, they must act.”
Father Jude Fernando disobeys even God
“Father Jude Fernando held a press conference yesterday and falsely claimed that I had defended a man—Pillayan—who was involved in the killing of 600 police officers and the Aranthalawa monks. Let’s look at the facts. The Aranthalawa massacre occurred on June 2, 1987. The mass killing of police officers happened on June 11, 1990. But Pillayan, according to his testimony to the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission, was recruited into the LTTE in 1991 as a child soldier.
So how can the Father claim Pillayan participated in events that occurred before he even joined the LTTE?
This is what happens when someone speaks based on what others have written, without verifying facts. God gave you two eyes and one mouth so that you read carefully and speak thoughtfully.
Reverend Father, the eighth commandment clearly says, ‘Thou shalt not bear false witness.’ I sincerely hope that you choose to obey God.”
