Authorities suspect that the assassination of social activist Dan Priyasad may have been orchestrated by Kanjipani Imran, a notorious underworld figure currently residing overseas, or by another international criminal syndicate.
Dan Priyasad had previously taken a strong public stance against the activities of organized crime figures, including Kanjipani Imran. He had led protests, notably in front of the Ministry of Public Security, and filed formal complaints with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), demanding the extradition of such criminals.
Following his murder, an unverified audio recording—allegedly featuring Kanjipani Imran—has surfaced on social media, in which a man, claimed to be Imran, appears to boast about orchestrating Priyasad’s killing. The recording has sparked outrage and further speculation.
In the clip, a voice believed to be Kanjipani is heard saying:
“There’s no point in discussing this anymore. These people are vile. They’re a burden on the government and their families. When a dog dies, you don’t ask whether it was killed or not. Dogs shouldn’t be kept. They should be dealt with early.”
The speaker continues:
“This government hasn’t even completed six months. Do you think they’ll be allowed to function? They’re mocking the President. If someone like me were President… things would be different. The current President is a decent man—that’s why they’re struggling so much.”
He concludes with a disturbing admission:
“I gain nothing by keeping this President. I lose nothing by keeping the old man. I just earn and live.”
The audio, which has not yet been officially verified, has raised fresh concerns over the extent of influence wielded by criminal figures abroad and the threats they continue to pose to individuals and national security.
Investigations into Dan Priyasad’s murder are ongoing. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the audio clip is authentic or part of a larger disinformation effort. Nonetheless, the remarks have deepened public fear and suspicion, placing pressure on the government to take urgent action against cross-border organized crime.
