
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people, and expressed Sri Lanka’s unwavering support for India during a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two leaders spoke for nearly fifteen minutes, during which President Dissanayake conveyed his deep shock and sorrow over the brutal attack. He affirmed that Sri Lanka stands in solidarity with India, bound by a shared sense of brotherhood and regional partnership.
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of life,” the President said. “Sri Lanka will always stand with the people of India in the face of terrorism.”
President Dissanayake also extended the condolences of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack. He reiterated Sri Lanka’s firm opposition to terrorism in all its forms, stating that violence against innocent civilians must be condemned wherever it occurs in the world.
He further expressed hope that the tense situation in the region would soon be resolved and that peace and stability would prevail.
The conversation marked an important moment of diplomatic solidarity as South Asia grapples with the ongoing threat of extremism and regional instability.
