A Sri Lankan Sub Inspector of Police (SI) was taken into custody on Friday in connection with allegedly soliciting a sexual bribe.
The SI is attached to the Kalmunai Police Station situated some 343 kilometres east of the commercial capital Colombo.
He was picked up from a hotel room by sleuths from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption (CIABOC) following a complaint made by a woman.
The suspect officer is accused of soliciting a sexual bribe from a female accused in a lawsuit, in exchange for submitting a report to the court in her favour.
The suspect SI is alleged to have chosen the hotel room for the rendezvous, police said.
He had also promised to make necessary arrangements to relax a court order directing her to report once a week to the police station, to one appearance a month.
Meanwhile the female complainant is in the middle of a court case for alleged cyber blackmail involving porn photographs on social media.
The woman is currently on bail.
The suspect SI was set to be produced before a local Magistrate on late Friday.
