President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called on the Tamil diaspora to invest in Sri Lanka’s development, particularly in the upcoming industrial park in Mankulam. Speaking at a public meeting in Pudukudiyruppu, he emphasized his government’s commitment to accountability, economic growth, and national unity.
Reflecting on the recent political shift, the President remarked, “In the last election, people were promised dynastic rule—whether through a president’s son, a son-in-law, or political symbols. But I come from Thambuttegama. They never expected this change.” He highlighted his administration’s crackdown on corruption, noting that several former officials, including ex-Chief Ministers, are now facing legal action. “For the first time, we have a government that does not steal public funds. Those who did are being held accountable—some are in jail, some on remand, and others in hiding. This is justice in action,” he said.
The President stressed that no one is above the law, citing ongoing cases against members of the previous ruling family. He urged voters to strengthen his government’s mandate in the upcoming local elections on May 6 by supporting the National People’s Power (NPP).
Looking ahead, President Dissanayake outlined key development projects, including plans for an international cricket stadium in Jaffna, with the goal of hosting a match during his first term. “Our generation endured war, but we must build a peaceful, prosperous nation for the next generation,” he said.
Directly addressing the Tamil diaspora, he encouraged them to invest in Sri Lanka’s future. “Many from this region have migrated and achieved success abroad. We invite you to return, invest, and help rebuild our nation. The Mankulam Industrial Park is a prime opportunity—this is your homeland, and your contribution will shape its future.”
His appeal marks a significant push for economic revitalization and reconciliation, positioning Sri Lanka as a land of opportunity for all its people, both at home and abroad. With anti-corruption measures in full force and major infrastructure projects underway, the government aims to foster trust and attract global Sri Lankan talent to drive sustainable growth.
