According to the Weekend Deshaya newspaper, Mr. Russell Aponso is expected to be appointed as the new Secretary to the Ministry of Finance.
Currently, Aponso serves as the Secretary to the Clean Sri Lanka Task Force, operating under the Presidential Secretariat. His anticipated appointment comes as the tenure of the current Finance Secretary, Mr. Mahinda Siriwardena, draws to a close.
Mr. Siriwardena is set to retire from his position next month. Reports indicate that following his retirement, he will take up a senior role at the Asian Development Bank.
While the government had initially considered appointing Senior Presidential Advisor Duminda Hulangamuwa to the Finance Secretary role, it is reported that he has declined the offer.
