Firebrand Opposition Member of Parliament Wimal Weerawansa has warned that President Ranil Wickremasinghe is a sinking man who will take down anyone and flee the country.
Weerawansa made the remark in Parliament on Tuesday a day after Wickremasinghe sacked Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe to safeguard a corrupt cricket administration.
“Sacking the Sports Minister is the beginning of the end of the government,” said Weerawansa.
“Ranil will not contest the impending Presidential Election and will destroy the reputation of anyone as he cannot win. He has no future now and he will then leave the country and seek some international portfolio.”
Meanwhile another outspoken MP Dallas Alahapperuma said the accusation made by Ranasinghe that Wickremasinghe was plotting to kill him put Sri Lanka on the world map of historic notoriety.
“In modern history it has not been reported in a democracy where an MP has accused the Head of State of plotting to kill,” said Alahapperuma.
Ranasinghe also warned controversial House Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena not to stand in the way of what he (Ranasinghe) said was a violation of his Parliamentary Privileges.
Ranasinghe issued the warning when the Speaker interrupted his remarks that Wickremasinghe’s office was planting stories in the State controlled newspapers to discredit him over false accusations of providing land deeds to relatives when he was Irrigation and Agriculture Minister.
