(COLOMBO) – The Netherlands on Wednesday returned six Sri Lankan artefacts looted by the colonial ruler some 200 years ago, officials said.
The six historical objects include the Lewke’s cannon, a Golden Kasthane, a Silver Kasthane, a Sinhalese Knife and two Guns – were ceremoniously accepted by Minister Vidura Wickremanayake at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake on Wednesday morning.
These items will be on public display at the National Museum in Colombo from December 5, the officials said.
The Netherlands along with Great Britain and Portugal made up the colonial rulers of this tiny Indian Ocean island republic for a period spanning some 500-plus years.
