Sports Minister Harin Fernando has succeeded in buying some time to settle a legal dispute initiated by his predecessor Roshan Ranasinghe over the appointment of an Interim Committee to run corruption-ridden Sri Lanka Cricket when the case was taken up for hearing by the Court of Appeal on Tuesday.
The verdict on the case was put off for December 13.
Ranasinghe filed a counter Petition challenging a Stay order on the Interim Committee that he appointed which was suspended following a Petition filed by Sri Lanka Cricket president Shammi Silva.
Ranasinghe who was removed from his portfolio by President Ranil Wickremasinghe, filed the Petition challenging the Stay order on his Interim Committee on November 13.
But Ranasinghe who launched out on an unprecedented campaign to clean up corruption in cricket was sacked by Wickremasinghe two weeks after he sought to nullify the Stay order that was delivered in favour of Shammi Silva.
Current Sports Minister Harin Fernando inheriting the case filed by his predecessor Roshan Ranasinghe asked for more time to study the representations through his attorney Kushan de Alwis.
Minister Fernando had in the meantime given an assurance to the Court of Appeal that he will not take action on the Gazette notification on the appointment of the Interim Committee set up to run cricket.
The Stay order that Ranasinghe is challenging has enabled Shammi Silva and his Committee to continue to run the affairs of cricket.
