(COLOMBO) – A former Sri Lankan senior police officer was on Wednesday released from a case filed against him over an alleged VIP assassination plot in 2019.
Colombo Forth Magistrate Magistrate Thilina Gamage discharged Ex-Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Nalaka de Silva after the Attorney General informed court that there was ‘insufficient evidence’ to support the allegations.
De Silva who was the former Director of the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) was arrested on October 25, 2018, over a suspected plot to assassinate former Presidents Maithripala Sirisena and Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The police had commenced investigations into the former DIG following a complaint made by Namal Kumara, a self-styled director of a local anti-corruption movement.
