A military operation aimed at taking down Islamic extremists and militia groups in Nigeria, ends in a civilian blood bath as Nigerian Armed Forces dropped bombs via drones on a group of Muslims gatherers in the Kudana State, killing more than 85 civilians gathered for a religious occasion.
The attack took place at 9pm on Sunday, and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter, and stated his sorrow over the incident he quoted was a “bombing mishap”.
Militia Groups and Islamic Extremists have terrorized the Nigerian people since Boko Haram launched an insurgency aimed at overthrowing the current Nigerian secular government, in hopes of establishing an Islamic state. T
he United States has also addressed concerns over the ongoing situation and provided the Nigerian military with 1 billion dollar in weapons. 14 different cases of intelligence failures have surfaced since Nigeria began using air strikes to defend against terrorists, killing over 300 civilians and traumatizing many families due to operational errors by Nigerian Armed Forces.
The Nigerian Armed Forces have also been accused of intentionally killing off babies fathered by Boko Haram fighters, young boys and anyone perceived as a fighter.
Both Boko Haram and the Nigerian security forces have been found guilty of multiple accounts of human rights violations since the conflict began in 2009, killing more than 35,000 people in 14 years. Among the human rights violations are charges of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, incommunicado detention and sexual violence.
Nigeria’s President Tinubu has claimed that the incident was a “bombing mishap” and asked for a full investigation into the matter. However, in recent years, Nigerian Forces have not been held accountable for their actions and frequently targeted armed militia in the northwest and central parts of the country, without consequence.
