(COLOMBO) – A former Sri Lankan soldier was sentenced to death over the fatal shooting of two colleagues some 14 years ago inside the Parappukandal army camp in Mannar situated north from the commercial capital of Colombo.
The sentence was handed down to the 55-year-old former soldier by the Mannar High Court Judge M. M. M. Mihal, officials said.
They said the man was convicted with the fatal shooting of two other soldiers over a personal dispute.
A third soldier was also injured in the attack.
The incident took place at the tail end of fighting between the Sri Lankan security forces and the now defunct separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) mainly in the north and east of the country.
