Hasaranga Ruled Out of Bangladesh T20I Series Due to Hamstring Injury
Sri Lanka’s T20I captain, Wanindu Hasaranga, has been officially ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh after sustaining a hamstring injury on his right leg. The injury occurred while he was batting during the third and final ODI of the recently concluded series.
According to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), medical assessments confirmed the injury was significant enough to warrant Hasaranga’s withdrawal from the squad. He will now return to Colombo to begin his rehabilitation process at the High Performance Centre operated by Sri Lanka Cricket.
Despite his absence leaving a notable gap in the team’s leadership and bowling attack, the board announced that no replacement will be named for Hasaranga in the T20I squad. This means the team will move forward with the existing group of players as they prepare to face Bangladesh in the shortest format.
Hasaranga’s injury comes as a setback not only for Sri Lanka’s immediate campaign but also as a potential concern ahead of other crucial fixtures later this year. The all-rounder has been a pivotal figure in the team, both as a bowler and a captain, making his absence a challenge for the team’s momentum.
Sri Lanka will now rely on its bench strength and experienced players to step up in Hasaranga’s absence, as they aim to secure the series win in Bangladesh.
