Minister K.D. Lalkantha launches a new National Livestock Development Board outlet at Maradana Railway Station, emphasizing how government employees’ “middle-class mentality” drives demand for quality products.
In a significant move for Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands, and Irrigation, Mr. K.D. Lalkantha, inaugurated a new National Livestock Development Board (NLDB) outlet at Maradana Railway Station. The event marked one of the first steps towards revitalizing the NLDB, which was previously on the brink of closure.
Minister Lalkantha expressed his appreciation for the outlet’s establishment, highlighting how the new government’s vision has breathed new life into the National Livestock Development Board. He noted that this initiative will play a key role in opening local milk stalls across the country, thereby boosting local production and providing a high-quality alternative to supermarket milk.
“This outlet was designed to maintain the identity of the Maradana Railway Station, making it an attractive addition to the station’s facilities,” said Minister Lalkantha. “The station, a hub for government employees, is now a place where these workers can access affordable, quality products.”
The Minister further emphasized the influence of middle-class values on the project’s success. “Government employees represent the middle class. They seek quality products and aspire to provide the best for their families, including quality liquid milk for their children,” Lalkantha added. He explained that this demographic values educational opportunities and strives for a better life, and the outlet is designed to cater to these aspirations.
With a focus on quality and reliability, the Minister assured that the NLDB’s milk products, available at the outlet, would be of superior quality compared to other liquid milk brands in the market. He stressed that the liquid milk provided by the NLDB is guaranteed to meet high standards, ensuring the trust and satisfaction of Sri Lanka’s middle-class consumers.
Representatives from both the National Livestock Development Board and Maradana Railway Station also attended the opening, marking the occasion as a milestone for both the local agricultural industry and the Sri Lankan railway community.
