Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila unleashes a scathing critique of the National People’s Power government, accusing it of failing every single one of its 1,329 election promises. In a hard-hitting press conference, he says not even a single commitment has been fulfilled in 10 months, calling Verity Research’s claims of one completed promise a calculated lie. He warns that Sri Lanka is slipping from a “Beautiful Life” to a “Beautiful Life for the Rich.”
Gammanpila: NPP Hasn’t Fulfilled a Single One of Its 1,329 Promises in 10 Months—Verity Research is Lying
“The government has been in power for 10 months. Not a single one of its 1,329 promises has been fulfilled. Verity Research is lying about making one,” said party leader and lawyer Udaya Gammanpila at a media conference of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya.
He expressed these views at a media conference held at his party headquarters.
“This government was appointed for five years. That is, for 60 months. This government has been in office for exactly 10 months today. That means 1/6 of the government’s life has ended today. In that case, 1/6 of the promises made by this government must have been fulfilled by now.
The promises made by this government on the election platform have almost all been broken. We have collected 100 compasses and added them to the Udaya Gammanpila YouTube channel. Let’s talk about the nonsense they said when they came and went. But an election manifesto is not like that. It is an important document prepared by scholars, professionals and politicians together. Even if they say things on the platform, there cannot be any mistakes in the election manifesto. Therefore, the research division of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya investigated the promises of the election manifesto of the National People’s Power Party called “Prosperous Country – Beautiful Life”.
The promises in the chapter titled “A Complete Life – A Comfortable Country” of this election manifesto There are 331. There are 181 promises in the chapter titled “A dignified life – a secure country”. There are 604 promises in the chapter titled “A modern life – a prosperous country”. There are 213 promises in the chapter titled “A dignified life – a stable country”. All these promises have been added together, making the Malama government 1,329 promises to the people. As 1/6 of the government’s term has ended, at least 1/6 of these, that is, 221 promises, must have been fulfilled by now. But how many have actually been fulfilled? We have not found a single fulfilled promise. If anything has been fulfilled, please tell us. Then we will accept it.
A non-governmental organization called Verity Research had said that only the proposal to increase the exemption limit of personal income taxes was fulfilled. But that is a lie. Malama promised to increase the exemption limit of personal income from 12 lakhs to 24 lakhs. In the election manifesto, 103 Look at the page. It says so. “Increasing the annual tax exemption limit for individuals from Rs. 12 lakh to Rs. 24 lakh and making reasonable amendments to the tax brackets and tax rates”.
In fact, the tax exemption limit was not increased to Rs. 24 lakh. Only to Rs. 18 lakh. So how can you say that the promise was fulfilled? It is a trap that the government has built to save itself by saying that a government that has done nothing has fulfilled at least one promise.
This government came to power promising to reduce taxes, increase revenue, reduce the price of goods and give us a rich country and a beautiful life. But only the price of eggs has decreased. Lights do not light up with eggs. Vehicles do not run with eggs. When you go to get medicine for illness, doctors do not write to tell you to eat eggs. Today, there is no protest against these because if there were walking skeletons then, today those skeletons cannot even walk. Therefore, the government’s theme of “A rich country – a beautiful life” should be changed to “A beautiful life for the rich” We propose.
