Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa signs the Angkor Initiative 2.0 Declaration at the Asian Media Summit in Cambodia, pledging to fight fake news and uphold media integrity.
Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa made a powerful pledge to uphold truth in media by signing the Angkor Initiative 2.0 Declaration at the closing ceremony of the 20th Asian Media Summit, held in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The declaration is a regional effort aimed at combating disinformation and promoting information integrity, with the participation of ministers and media leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region.
The Asian Media Summit, organized by the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and hosted by the Ministry of Information of Cambodia, welcomed over 200 foreign delegates, including ministers, media executives, and professionals from the region.
The conference officially opened on 22 July, featuring keynote addresses by H.E. Neth Peaktra, Cambodia’s Minister of Information, and Ms. Philomena Gnanapragasam, CEO of the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Corporation.
Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa arrived in Cambodia on 23 July and took part in multiple bilateral discussions with key regional leaders and media authorities. Among those he met were the Minister of Information of Cambodia, Chief Spokesperson of the Presidential Secretariat and State Minister H.E. Heena Waleed, the Maldives delegation, and Ms. Philomena Gnanapragasam, along with officials from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
In recognition of his dedication to the promotion of truthful media practices, Minister Jayatissa presented the honorary title of “Special Envoy for the Integrity of Information Dissemination” to H.E. Neth Peaktra, Cambodia’s Minister of Mass Media.
The 20th Asian Media Summit concluded with the announcement that the 21st Asian Media Conference will be hosted by the Maldives in 2026, promising continued efforts to enhance media credibility and cross-border cooperation in information governance.
