Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage launches a scathing attack on YouTubers who he claims spread negativity against the government, branding some of them as “excrement-eaters” obsessed with slander. His fiery remarks came during a media briefing in Galle, where he emphasized the government’s resolve to keep moving forward despite social media mockery.
Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage has stirred controversy with a fiery outburst aimed at several social media content creators. Speaking to the media in Galle, Hewage accused a group of YouTubers of continuously slandering the government while deliberately ignoring its accomplishments.
“There are some YouTubers who eat excrement whenever they see a pit,” the Deputy Minister said, using harsh words to describe what he sees as a toxic online culture. “They never acknowledge anything positive that this government is doing. It’s as if their mouths are glued shut when something good happens.”
He clarified that his criticism was not directed at all YouTubers but targeted a specific few who focus solely on negative content and sensationalism.
Hewage further asserted that these so-called excrement-eating YouTubers are incapable of changing their course even if they wanted to. “They’ve locked themselves into this destructive pattern of behavior. But that won’t stop the government. We will continue to move forward with our agenda for development,” he said.
The Deputy Minister’s remarks have drawn both criticism and support online, with many debating the role of social media influencers in shaping public opinion about government policies and leadership.
As political tensions rise and digital platforms become increasingly influential in public discourse, the war of words between government officials and YouTubers appears to be intensifying.
