Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala has revealed that a covert nationwide operation involving the tri-forces and police is already in motion to tackle Sri Lanka’s surge in violent crime and underworld killings. While full details remain classified, authorities have deployed elite teams across the island and ramped up efforts at every police station. The government vows not to turn a blind eye to the bloodshed.
Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala announced that a special, undisclosed program has been launched to combat the growing wave of crime and murders occurring across the country. He made this statement while addressing the media during the inauguration of the North Western Provincial Crime Division at the Wehera Police Complex in Kurunegala.
Speaking further, the Minister said a comprehensive response has been mobilized involving close coordination between the tri-forces and the police. According to him, the scale and nature of this initiative cannot yet be revealed to the public.
“A wave of crimes and murders has been created across the country. The tri-forces and the police have jointly initiated a special program to resolve it. The media is not able to disclose this matter,” the Minister stated.
He confirmed that fifteen elite crime-fighting teams are now operating across the country, in addition to rapid-response units assigned to every police station. These units are reportedly focused on dismantling criminal networks and responding swiftly to incidents involving underworld figures.
“Murders are taking place among certain underworld leaders. The government will not ignore these human killings,” Minister Wijepala asserted.
As the country continues to grapple with escalating violence, the Minister assured the public that the government is taking firm and coordinated steps to restore law and order.
