(COLOMBO) – Two school boys were arrested after they are alleged to have raped an under-aged girl and filmed the episode before uploading the images on social media platforms, Sri Lankan Police said Tuesday.
They said the boys were arrested following a complaint received by the victim’s mother.
Initial investigations have found out that the suspects had successfully lured the victim into a lodge in Sri Lanka’s central hill capital of Kandy where the alleged rape took place.
Thereafter they had also repeatedly sexually abused the girl after threatening her that the episode would be uploaded on social media if she refused to comply.
The pair was subsequently remanded by a local Magistrate until January 01 while the victim was sent to a medical institution.
Such incidents are not rare in the island-nation and the authorities have repeatedly warned girls and young women against being ‘honey trapped’ by such predators and have also urged the public to inform the relevant authorities of such activities.
