Police in Wellawatte have uncovered an illegal brothel disguised as an Ayurvedic spa, arresting six foreign women in a late-night raid on Station Road. The operation sheds light on the growing use of wellness centers as fronts for prostitution in Colombo.
Six foreign women have been arrested following a police raid on a brothel operating under the guise of an Ayurvedic spa in Wellawatte, Colombo.
The bust took place last night after authorities received a tip-off about suspicious activity at a so-called wellness center on Station Road in Wellawatte. Upon raiding the premises, officers discovered that the establishment was being used as a front for illegal prostitution.
All six women arrested are foreign nationals aged between 30 and 40. They were taken into custody at the location and are currently being held for questioning.
According to initial reports, the alleged brothel was advertised and operated as a legitimate Ayurvedic spa, attracting both local and foreign clientele. Investigators believe the business may be part of a broader network using similar disguises to conduct illegal sex work in Colombo’s urban centers.
The Wellawatte Police are continuing their investigations, including efforts to identify the owners, local facilitators, and any potential links to human trafficking rings. Authorities have not yet released the nationalities of the women involved but have confirmed that immigration officials have been notified for further action.
The arrest has reignited public concern about the rise in illegal activities being carried out under the cover of wellness services, particularly in high-traffic areas such as Wellawatte. Police sources say more surprise inspections and undercover surveillance operations are planned in the coming weeks to crack down on such establishments.
