Sri Lanka’s Health and Mass Media Minister Nalinda Jayatissa has warned that tomorrow’s hartal in the North and East is a political conspiracy fueled by misinformation. He urged the public not to be misled by propaganda aimed at destabilizing the country.
Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has accused certain political parties in the North and East of misleading the people and creating unrest to achieve their narrow political goals.
The Minister revealed that a hartal has been organized in the Northern and Eastern provinces for tomorrow. He appealed to the people of those areas not to be deceived by such propaganda and urged them to act peacefully.
The statement was made during a special media briefing held at the Government Information Department today, the 17th.
Recently, the government launched a program to rehabilitate military camps across the country. As part of this initiative, rehabilitation work was also implemented at the 12th Sinha Regiment camp located in Mutthayankattu, Sivanagar, in the Oddusan area of Mullaitivu.
According to the Minister, five unauthorized individuals entered this military camp. The military had taken steps to expel them, but during the process, one of them drowned in the Mutthayankattu tank in Mullaitivu.
Following allegations that the individual who drowned had been assaulted, investigations were launched. One soldier was initially arrested, followed by the arrest of two additional soldiers. Altogether, three military personnel have been arrested and remanded in custody in connection with the incident.
Minister Jayatissa emphasized that certain political groups are deliberately distorting the facts of the case, attempting to portray the incident as the military killing a civilian. He stressed that these groups are exploiting the tragedy for political advantage by spreading false narratives.
The Minister reiterated that the hartal is being orchestrated to destabilize the region, and called on the public to remain vigilant and not to be caught up in conspiracies aimed at undermining peace.
