Minister Nalinda Jayatissa clarified that Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody is not under investigation by the Bribery or Corruption Commission over any matter connected to his current ministerial position, but rather over an incident from his past public service career.
Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated that he has not claimed that the Bribery or Corruption Commission has launched an investigation into the current Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody. Instead, he explained that the allegation being discussed relates to an incident that occurred during Jayakody’s time in public service, not after assuming his current ministerial office.
He further noted that the accusations stemmed from shortcomings committed by a few lower-level employees of the institution where Jayakody previously worked. According to de Jayatissa, the arbitration court had already ruled that the government did not suffer any financial loss from the matter. The court also concluded that Jayakody should not be removed from public service, and his eventual resignation followed thereafter.
Minister de Jayatissa emphasized that Jayakody should not be discredited over an incident disconnected from his ministerial duties. However, he added that he remains prepared to respond based on how circumstances may develop in the future.
