Lanka Sugar (Pvt) Ltd, under Minister Handunnethi’s watch, plans to set up dedicated sales outlets for brown sugar across Sri Lanka, because apparently, the nation needs a nationwide project just to sell sugar, complete with tenders, sealed envelopes, and a Rs. 5000 registration fee.
Lanka Sugar Private Limited, a fully Treasury-owned company operating under the Ministry of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, has announced plans to establish islandwide sales points and storage facilities for brown sugar.
According to the official announcement, selected buildings for these sales outlets must meet strict requirements. Each sales point should have an internal perimeter of 10 × 10 feet, while storage facilities must measure 40 × 50 feet. Basic utilities such as water and electricity must be available, and contracts will be valid for two years.
The locations for sales points must face the main road of the respective city, while storage facilities must be set up in districts near the specified district centers. Officials insist that no middlemen or brokers will be accepted, and only actual building owners are eligible to apply.
Applications must be submitted in writing to the Chairman, Lanka Sugar (Pvt) Ltd., Wing-B, 1st Floor, Sethsiripaya – Phase 1, Battaramulla, on weekdays between 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. until September 3, 2025.
The application form carries a non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 5000, payable in cash to the Finance Department of Lanka Sugar or via deposit to Bank of Ceylon, Milagiriya Branch, Account No. 73927950. Proof of payment must be submitted along with the registration documents.
Completed forms and supporting documents must be delivered in a sealed envelope to the Chairman, Lanka Sugar (Pvt) Ltd., before 2.00 p.m. on September 4, 2025. Envelopes must be clearly marked “Establishment of sales outlets islandwide for sale of brown sugar and rental of buildings for storage facilities.” Proposals will be opened immediately after the deadline in the presence of bidders or their representatives. Late submissions will not be accepted, and the decision of the Tender Board will be final.
