- South African new paceman brings India down to zero
South Africa brought India’s current dominance in Test cricket to zero as they won the first Test by a convincing innings and 32 runs at Centurion with two days left in the match.
The Indians had no solution to counter the pace of new South Africa paceman Nandre Burger who plucked four wickets in the second innings to send the tourists crashing to a total of 131.
Burger, playing in his first Test as a left arm paceman, had the scalps of Yashasvi Jaiswal (5), KL Rahul (4), Ravichandran Ashwin (0) and Mohamed Siraj (4) after he plucked three wickets in India’s first innings total of 245 that came bowled out Jaiswal (17), Shubman Gill (2) and KL Rahul (101).
The South African batting pair of Dean Elgar (185) and Marco Jansen (84 not out) also stood in the way of India who are currently the Number One Test team as the pair helped their team to make 408 in the first innings securing a 163 lead on first innings.
South Africa are ranked 4th in the ICC Test rankings while India are ranked top in all three formats.
The second Test begins on January 3.
