Sri Lanka has paid tribute to Indonesian police officers for their role in a high-profile joint operation that led to the arrest of five of the country’s most wanted underworld leaders, including Kehelbaddara Padme.
The Sri Lankan government yesterday paid tribute to Indonesian police officers who assisted in capturing five of Sri Lanka’s most notorious underworld figures in Jakarta.
The Indonesian officials arrived in Colombo last evening alongside the arrested suspects, marking the successful conclusion of a major cross-border crackdown on organized crime.
Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala was present at the Bandaranaike International Airport to personally thank the Indonesian officers for their cooperation and to emphasize the government’s appreciation for their support in the joint mission.
The five suspects, including underworld leader Kehelbaddara Padme, were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under tight security immediately after arrival. They were later transferred to Colombo for detailed questioning and further investigation.
The arrests mark a significant victory against organized crime networks, achieved through a coordinated effort between the Sri Lanka Police, the CID, and Indonesian law enforcement agencies. Officials said the collaboration underscored the importance of international partnerships in dismantling criminal operations that extend across borders.
