Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage ridiculed opposition leaders Ranil Wickremesinghe, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Maithripala Sirisena, Sajith Premadasa, Namal Rajapaksa, and Champika Ranawaka, calling them criminals and locking them out in same room at once
Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Nalin Hewage launched a scathing attack on Sri Lanka’s opposition leaders, branding them as criminals gathered under one roof. He sarcastically remarked that during the next joint opposition meeting, all it would take is to throw a tortoise into the hall to round them up and send them straight to Welikada prison.
“Now it has become very easy for us with the past actions of the opposition. Sajith, Ranil, Namal, Mahinda, Maithripala, Champika, these are criminals. They were hiding in different places, but with the incident involving Ranil, they came together,” Hewage told reporters.
He further mocked that if a bomb were thrown into the hall, it would wipe out every thief in one go. According to him, the line between the corrupt and the clean has never been clearer. “Sajith and Namal have now taken off their clothes and are together. Why are they doing this? They think banding together gives them safety, but the government will also find comfort in that. Once a tortoise is found, we can send them all to Welikada in one group,” Hewage added.
The remarks, though laced with humor, highlight growing hostilities between the government and opposition leaders ahead of upcoming elections. Hewage insists that the law will catch up with them and that the opposition’s unity only confirms their desperation.
