President Anura Kumara Dissanayake vowed to end the legacy of war by returning all Northern lands once seized by security forces and investing in major fisheries development to empower local communities.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake declared that the government’s vision is no longer shaped by war but by peace, prosperity and unity. Speaking at the inauguration of the third phase of the Myliddy Fisheries Harbour Development Project in Jaffna today (01), the President said every piece of land in the North acquired by the military during the war will be returned to its rightful owners.
He stressed that while past administrations acted with the expectation of renewed conflict, his government works with the aim of ensuring war never returns. “We are committed to building a prosperous nation for the people of both the North and the South,” he said.
The President highlighted the government’s responsibility to strengthen the fishing community by providing necessary facilities. He confirmed that the Myliddy project will deliver vital infrastructure such as water, electricity, fuel, cold storage, net-mending centres, auction halls and radio communication centres. The Rs. 298 million investment will benefit not only Northern fishermen but also boats from the East and South.
President Dissanayake reaffirmed that safeguarding the seas, islands and landmass of the nation is a top priority and assured that no external force will be allowed to exert influence.
The symbolic inauguration was carried out by the President in the presence of Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Sunil Watagala, Deputy Minister of Land and Irrigation Susil Ranasinghe, Northern Province Governor Nagalingam Vethanayahan, senior officials and defence representatives.
