Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka declares that leaving the Samagi Jana Balawegaya was divine intervention, insisting he now does politics with honesty, clarity and a vision for Sri Lanka’s future.
Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka says he feels as though he was saved by a divine hand from joining the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), claiming that today he is free to do politics with good understanding and an open heart.
“When I escaped from the powerful political parties, many thought I was politically orphaned, doing something I could not understand. But if I were in the SJB today, I would only be second best,” Fonseka said.
Reflecting on the current state of the opposition, Fonseka remarked that the fate of the SJB proves his decision was right. “I feel like a god, or someone above, has protected this country. I believe someone up there saved my mother. Because of that, I stand here today on my own two feet, speaking to people with sincerity.”
He added that had he remained within the SJB, he would likely be burdened by court cases, protests or standing alongside those facing corruption charges. “Now, I don’t have to do that. I think about the country in a way that is consistent with my heart, sit with the people and do politics.”
Fonseka emphasized that his politics is now guided by an open mind and a strong vision for Sri Lanka’s future, free from entanglements and compromises that he believes define the opposition’s struggles.
