Australia batsman David Warner could have one of the most unpleasant of retirements if he does not get back what has come to be famously known as the Baggy Green Cap, a headwear that has a history of 160 years.
Warner, who will play his last cricket Test against Pakistan before bowing out staring on January 3 in Sydney, lost what is also considered a symbol of national pride when a thief stole his backpack from his luggage.
Taking to Social media, Warner said he will reward anyone, including the person who spirited away what even the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in England called the “most famous cap in the world”.
“Unfortunately, someone has taken my backpack out of my actual luggage, which had my backpack and my girls’ presents in there. Inside this backpack was my Baggy Greens. That is sentimental to me, it’s something I would love to have back in my hands, walking out there come this week.
“If it’s the backpack that you really wanted, I have a spare one here. You won’t get into trouble, just get in touch with Cricket Australia or me. I’m happy to give this to you if you return my Baggy Green,” Warner said in a video posted on his Instagram account.
Warne,37, has worn the Baggy Green Cap at 111 Test matches scoring 8695 runs and is looking forward to a standing ovation at his farewell at the New Year’s Test.
